Bloody Knuckles on the Punching Bag?
Are your knuckles scabbed and bleeding after punching a heavybag? This video covers how to prevent cut knuckles and how to quickly heal the injury. Bloody knuckles is common when going bare-knuckle on a punching bag, especially one that is made of canvas (leather/vinyl are softer and more forgiving on the skin). Glancing or grazing punches often scrape the skin off of your knuckles, so be sure to hit with direct shots. If your knuckles are cut in between the pinky and ring finger, this is a sign that you are hitting incorrectly -- you should make contact with all four knuckles or even the first two index and middle finger. It also helps to keep a slightly looser, flatter fist upon impact so that your knuckles don't protrude out as much. This will prevent the skin from stretching and tearing. You must be careful, however, not to have a limp wrist or jam your thumb. In order to heal scabbed knuckles, you must give your hands time to rest. This may take a few days or even weeks. That is why prevention is your best bet. However a trick to speed up the process is to cover your hands with petroleum jelly, then wear gloves for a few hours or as you sleep. This will rehydrate your hands and help with the healing process. All of this being said, bare-knuckle is very dangerous and should be done with caution. You risk hand and wrist injury, so it is recommended that you use handwraps and gloves when hitting the heavybag.
