The 'Fitzsimmons Shift': Footwork for Powerful Punches
Today we're covering a footwork technique known as "shifting," which is the act of stepping forward and using the momentum of your bodyweight to add power to your punches. Traditionally a boxing technique, the shift was used by Mike Tyson, GGG, and Roberto Duran, but it was used back in the late 1800's by Bob Fitzimmons. Today, MMA fighters like TJ Dillashaw are also using it with great success, even to set up kicks and knees. We also talk a but about Jack Dempsey and his famous "Dempsey Roll" as depicted in the fighting anime Hajime No Ippo.
